What just happened? What happens next? What is that picture? Is that a duck? What's going on here? Help us create a hilarious story using teamwork and terrible drawing skills. The worse you are, the better it will be. No registration necessary.

BOOK CHARACTER COSTUME GALA:

For students in grades 6 - 12


Come dressed as your favorite book character! Heroes, heroines, sidekicks and villains are welcome! Games, activities, photo ops and prizes abound, then we'll cap it off by shooting a silent film starring all of the characters in attendance. Dress to impress! Prop accessories only, please.

Watch some blockbuster book trailers made by kids like you, then learn all the tips and tricks you need to create your own. From casting and set design to software and editing, this crash course in videography could make you a star.

The Giver by Lois Lowry

Last year's winner created a book trailer about "The Giver" by Lois Lowry.

BOOK TRAILER CONTEST: For students in grades 6 - 12

Bring your favorite book to life by creating your own book trailer video.  Book trailers are all the rage, from high-end productions made by the publisher to author created clips, and even fan-made trailers: that’s you! Grab your A-List actors and let those cameras roll.  New to filmmaking? Sign up for our video workshop on September 21. Submit your film following the requirements below and accompanied by a submission form (also available at the Children’s and Youth Services desk) by Friday, October 10th to participate. Then grab your friends and fans to join us for our red carpet premiere viewing party and awards ceremony on Friday, October 17th at 4:30pm where the winning trailer will be announced.

Submission requirements:

  • Submission deadline is Friday, October 10th at 8:30 pm
  • Submissions can be live action or animated
  • Submissions cannot exceed five minutes in length
  • Videos must be submitted on a USB drive (preferred) or a CD (in a sleeve or case)
  • Please submit videos in one of the following formats:
    • AVI, MP4, MPEG, or WMV
  • All content must be “family friendly”. Videos containing nudity, inappropriate language, or extreme violence will be rejected.
  • Click here for a submission form , or stop at the children’s and youth services desk; this form must be filled out and signed for each submission.
