Lakewood Public Library provides free access to an extensive collection of health, business, academic, practical, professional and popular resources online and in the Library. Most of these resources can be accessed anywhere in the world with the code on the back of your Library card.

Readers’ Advisory

NoveList Plus is a comprehensive readers’ advisory service. Discover books and authors similar to the ones you already enjoy or strike out into new territory, searching by theme, character, place or style. NoveList Plus includes both fiction and nonfiction.

This valuable resource is made possible by the generous support of the Doug and June Fisher Endowment.

Novelist K-8 provides the same readers’ advisory tools for the whole family. Search for book titles by Lexile level, Accelerated Reading Level, grade level, award winners, genre, Dewey decimal number range and more. Provides book cover images, read-alike suggestions and links to the Lakewood Public Library catalog.

LinkedIn Learning (Formerly Lynda.com) offers more than 12,000 courses, ranging from computer programming to project management including instruction on various computer software, programming languages, and business topics. The video courses are taught by industry experts and are designed for any skill level.

Ohio Means Jobs offers help with resume building, job hunting and interview tips, and assessments.

Education & Research

Cox Digital Academy. Cox Communications, Inc., in partnership with the American Library Association provides these fun, engaging and educational tools for all ages and levels of computer literacy.

EBSCOhost. Thousands of magazines, newspapers and peer-reviewed journals from yesterday and today. It’s fun for casual reading and indispensable for scholars. Search for articles by keyword or use publication search to browse through the archives of your favorite magazines and journals. Students take note: The articles you find here can be cited in the same manner as the original print sources.

Kids InfoBits is content-rich, authoritative, easy-to-use. and features age-appropriate, reliable, and perfect for today’s young learners. Its curriculum-related content covers a broad range of educational topics via a modern, graphical interface.

Oxford Research Encyclopedias offer long-form overview articles written, peer-reviewed, and edited by leading scholars. Each of the twenty-five distinct encyclopedias cover both foundational and cutting-edge topics in order to develop, over time, an anchoring knowledge base for major areas of research across the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Oxford Classical Dictionary and  Encyclopedia of Social Work are two of those encyclopedias.

Very Short Introductions provide intelligent and serious introductions to a huge range of subjects. In this digital resource, hundreds of titles can be searched at once, opening up new pathways across subjects. Students can use Very Short Introductions to consider study options, embark on a new module, topic, or essay, or revise a particular subject.  Teachers and other educators can assign chapters, or whole books to students. Genealogy and Local History

The world’s largest collections of genealogical resources are now available to help you trace your lineage back through the centuries.

African American Heritage is exclusively devoted to African American family history research. This collection was created in partnership with leading African American genealogists and recognized leaders in genealogical information to develop a comprehensive mix of resources, records, and tools specifically pertaining to African Americans.

Ancestry Library Edition is a free online genealogical research tool that allows you to search for your ancestors in census, marriage, birth, and death records.  Ancestry Library Edition is free to use every day at the Library. This resource can only be accessed at the Library.

Fold3® Library Edition is the premier collection of historical military records, including the stories, photos, and personal documents of the men and women who served from the Revolutionary War through recent conflicts. It contains millions of records from world-class archives, many of which are exclusively available on Fold3 Library Edition.

HeritageQuest® Online is an essential collection of genealogical and historical sources for more than 60 countries, with coverage dating back as early as the 1700s. The collection can help people find their ancestors and discover a place’s past, while also providing a comprehensive treasury of genealogical sources rich in unique records, local and family histories, and finding-aids.

Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps provides a searchable database of the fire insurance maps published by the Sanborn Map Company and includes maps from all over the country. The online checklist is based upon the 1981 publication Fire Insurance Maps in the Library of Congress and is continually updated to reflect new acquisitions.

Automotive Repair

ALLDATA Online provides automotive and diagnostic repair information. ALLDATA Online offers OEM wiring diagrams, exploded-view illustrations, maintenance tables with service intervals, automatic repair updates and technical service bulletins. This resource can only be accessed at the Library. Login with username: Comp 1500 and password: Comp1500.

Chilton Library provides access to repair, maintenance and service information on the most popular cars, trucks, vans and SUVs on the road today, as well as, many new vehicles. This continuously updated resource provides step-by-step repair procedures, troubleshooting guides, diagnostic trouble codes, photos, illustrations, diagrams, and multimedia (videos and animations) to simplify even the most complicated tasks.

Hobbies & Crafts

Hobbies & Crafts Reference Center offers detailed “how-to” instructions and creative ideas to meet the interests of virtually every hobby enthusiast. Full text is provided from leading hobby and craft magazines.

Home Improvement

Home Improvement Reference Center features full-text content from leading home improvement magazines, images not found anywhere else online and videos of popular home repair projects. All of the content is organized in a robust, easy-to-use interface so that users can quickly find the information they need.

Interlibrary Loan

The Library encourages patrons to request research materials not found in our collection. If a particular item cannot be purchased, the Library will attempt to borrow it from another institution through Interlibrary Loan.
