When European settlers first arrived in Ohio, they found a land that was 95% forested. Gardeners of today know, however, that many of our native flowers and grasses prefer to be out in the open, under full sunshine. What were the natural factors that allowed these plants of the meadow to colonize our area and persist to the present day? Dave Tomashefski from Meadow City will examine meadow communities of northeast Ohio, with an emphasis on their origin and ecology, as well as some inspiration for creating your own home meadow.
