Recovering Lost Voices: Young People’s Diaries from the Holocaust
Wednesday, January 1, 2025 at 9:00 am - Sunday, March 30, 2025 at 9:00 pm
Lakewood High School

Reading the narratives and stories of the lives and struggles of others promotes understanding and develops insight. Actor and teaching artist, Susan Stein, who recently completed an educator residency at the Maltz Museum in Beachwood, Ohio, will engage students at St. Edward High School and Lakewood High School in an informative and important program that recovers lost voices of the Holocaust.
This workshop introduces students to lesser-known diaries written by young people throughout Europe during the Holocaust, and reveals how personal context shapes one’s understanding of events. The close reading of writings by those imprisoned, those liberated, and those who perished fosters empathy and helps students understand the stages that lead to hatred and genocide.
