In a Lonely Place (1950)

Dix Steele (Humphrey Bogart) is a troubled, violence-prone screenwriter who hasn’t sold a screenplay in over a decade. His new neighbor, Laurel Gray (Gloria Grahame), is an aspiring actress who is romantically interested in him. When Dix is accused of the murder of a hat-check girl, she comes to his aid as a witness. Their mutual attraction is evident, but can it survive Dix’s bleak and tormented soul?  The film is director Ray’s gloomy commentary on the dark side of Hollywood. Directed by Nicholas Ray  (93 minutes).
