George Washington went from a young, inexperienced officer in the British colonial forces to supreme commander of a revolutionary army challenging the very same British Empire. How would a man who never led more than a few hundred men command a nascent army facing the best military in the world? How would he keep that army in the field in the face of incredible adversity? And how did he plan and execute a campaign that was daring, innovative and decisive? Steve Pettyjohn is a member of the American Battlefield Trust, Friends of Gettysburg, the Ohio History Connection and past president of the Cleveland Civil War Round Table.
