Laura (1944)

While Police Detective Mark McPherson (Dana Andrews) is investigating the murder of advertising executive Laura Hunt (Gene Tierney) he sees a portrait of her and falls in love. Laura’s friend and mentor, gossip columnist Waldo Lydecker (Clifton Webb), joins the investigation and derides the detective for falling in love with a painting. David Raksin’s haunting musical score adds to the film’s eerie atmosphere. Also starring Dame Judith Anderson and Vincent Price. Directed by Otto Preminger (88 minutes).
