Did you know that early books: Bibles, textbooks, storybooks, and books of science and technology were handwritten on animal skin? Many were beautifully decorated with colored inks, paints and precious metals. Dr. L’Engle will share real examples of medieval manuscripts from her private collection after an informative PowerPoint presentation describing how they were made. Dr. L’Engle has worked at the Morgan Library & Museum in New York City and the Getty Museum in Los Angeles. Besides authoring Illuminating the Law, she has written many articles in journals, tribute volumes, and books, including a chapter in The Cambridge Companion to Medieval Canon Law.
