Film – Ruby Gentry (1952) Presented by Barbara Steffek-Hill

Free spirited, backwoods North Carolina girl Ruby Corey (Jennifer Jones) is more than her parents can handle. They send her to live in the household of wealthy businessman Jim Gentry (Karl Malden). Ruby blossoms into a knockout, leading to a tempestuous on and off again affair with Boake Tackman (Charlton Heston), handsome scion of the town’s most prestigious family. Ruby dreams of someday being Boake’s wife, but he has a social equal in mind and marries her. After years of rejection by the town’s class-conscious snobs, Ruby agrees to marry Jim and exults in the social status she believes the union will bring. When at last Ruby has the wealth and the power to strike back against the town’s elite, she does so with a vengeance. Barbara Steffek-Hill presents a series of classic and contemporary films from her personal favorites.
