Film – The Night of the Shooting Stars

Directed by Paolo Taviani and Vittorio Taviani. In Italian folklore, the Night of San Lorenzo is the night when dreams come true. Every shooting star fulfills a wish, but in a small Italian village in 1944, the only wish is for peace. The villagers of San Martino must flee their homes after hearing of Nazi plans to destroy their town. American troops are rumored to be close by and a group of villagers set out to find the nearby liberators. Love-struck Galvano (Omero Antonutti) and Concetta (Margarita Lozano) are among those who depart hoping for rescue and shelter. A young girl named Cecilia (Micol Guidelli) accompanies them as the villagers must face the consequences of their unbearable decisions. In Italian with English subtitles.
